The Bodmer Watercolors from Joslyn Art Museum
As featured in Western Interiors & Design Karl Bodmer’s 1832 – 1834 original watercolors are the definitive and most beautiful images of the Great Plains Indians. Bodmer arrived just in time; he saw the American West and its indigenous people in their natural state. Now, we have the opportunity to see that world through his eyes – and to feel the wonder and awe that informed his work when he arrived in this alien territory. The intrinsic value of his extraordinary watercolors goes far beyond the finely detailed ethnographic documentation of elaborate clothing, body adornment and weaponry that identifies powerful leaders of vibrant societies. Bodmer’s original works are dramatic portraits that immediately convey the commanding personalities of the warriors and chiefs who were his subjects. His detailed, eye-witness paintings allow us to meet – on their own terms – the noble representatives of a culture just a few years before it vanished. We are thrilled to offer the first fine art reproductions of Bodmer’s original watercolors. These unique works are in the collection of Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. We’re grateful for Joslyn’s preservation of this uniquely important body of work – and for its collaboration to make Perfect Recreations™ available to you. We are proud to support their work through the sales of ours. "Real Bodmers aren't for sale, but stunning re-creations are." The Omaha World-Herald praised our "high-resolution, painstakingly detailed reproductions of eight of Bodmer's most famous watercolors".
