New York Collection

Discovery Editions' New York Collection begins with the celebrated Carwitham View of New York, our Perfect Recreation™ of a rare 1764 engraving. The original drawing was made in the 1730s and is both aesthetically splendid and historically significant.

The Collection also includes the pre-Revolutionary Plan of the City of New York (surveyed 1766-7), an extremely precise and beautiful rendering that is one of the most important early maps of the City. It was published in London in January of 1776, just months before the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Less than a century later, the City of New York commissioned Egbert Ludovicus Viele to produce the Sanitary & Topological Map of Manhattan to determine the location of what would become Central Park. The 1865 Viele map accurately depicts all of the island's watercourses, meadows, ponds, marshes and streams.

The Collection continues with the Perfect Recreation™ of the 1801 Detail Watercolor View of New York City by the renowned English painter, William Birch. The original watercolor was the basis for a now very rare 1802 copperplate engraving showing a panoramic view of the bustling, rapidly growing City at the turn of the century.

Audubon's Mallard Duck and Redoute's Tiger Lily complete the Collection with the most beautiful painted examples of much-loved local flora and fauna.
