A Partridge (c. 1731) and A Pear (c.1570)
Mark Catesby's lovely American Partridge and Jacques LeMoyne's exquisite Pear pair perfectly to make a holiday gift that will bring warmth, beauty and history to every fine home. These historic images are beautiful conversation pieces that are also endless sources of delight and fascination for children. In 1564, LeMoyne was sent to the New World by Charles IX of France. Serving as the official artist and cartographer of an expedition intended to establish a French colony in Florida, LeMoyne was the first great botanical artist to observe, draw and paint the flora of North America. At the 1720 invitation of the Royal Society of London, Mark Catesby observed and painted the flora and fauna of the English colonies in America. Between 1727 and 1741, he engraved and hand colored 250 copies of the Partridge for his landmark work, The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands. Bring a bit of the 16th and 18th centuries home for holidays. "Absolutely perfect and magnificent". What Our Customers Say "Gorgeous botanical prints in exquisite detail".
