San Francisco Collection
Our San Francisco Collection begins with the historic 1846 Mitchell map used by those who rushed to find their way west to California after the discovery of gold in January of 1848. The hand-colored lithograph of the 1849 Henry Firks painting shows San Francisco as a small trading post on the verge of becoming a major port city -- its harbor full of clipper ships and many of its new arrivals living in tents. Less than thirty years later, the dramatic 1878 Currier & Ives birds-eye view of the city and the definitive antique street map of 1876 show a booming 19th century San Francisco. 1876 also marks the founding of the Beringer winery, one of Napa Valley's first. Brookshaw's gorgeous Old St. Peter's Grapes and Audubon's iconic American White Pelican (c. 1830) complete the Collection with the most beautiful painted examples of local flora and fauna. "Absolutely perfect and magnificent". What Our Customers Say
