In 2005 TPL stepped in to help protect the Jamestown Campsites on the James River in Virginia. Explore the Map of Virginia (Jamestowne Colony) by Capt. John Smith, 1607. The City of Santa Fe asked TPL to take the lead in creating the future 13-acre Railroad Park and Plaza at the former railyards of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Marvel at this view before the advent of the railroad: Arrival of the Caravan at Santa Fe, 1844. Then discover New Mexico when it was still a part of Mexico: Map of the Territory of New Mexico, 1846. Since 1995, TPL has been helping the US Forest Service and local governments acquire and protect properties transected by Utah's Bonneville Shoreline Trail, the 100-mile long trail that follows the bench left by the receding waters of ancient Lake Bonneville along the Wasatch Range. Enjoy the view from the bench of the early pioneer community of Salt Lake City in Great Salt Lake, Utah by Currier & Ives, c. 1870. The designs of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux for the most famous urban park sparked the imagination of John Bachman. He visualized and painted thisBirdseye View of Central Park nearly two decades before its completion. TPL has created 16 playgrounds for kids to enjoy in New York City.
