Map of North Carolina 1770

Trace the accurate and detailed depiction of the Outer Banks, from Cape Hatteras to Cape Lookout to Cape Fear. Note the depiction of the batteries of Fort Johnston, home to John Collet, the British officer who prepared this map. Find Roanoke Island; its colony was lost less than two centuries earlier. Farther east, south of Albemarle Sound, explore "The Great Alegator Dismal Swamp".

Find Charlotte(sburgh), a "hornet's nest of rebellion" according to the British. Charlottesburgh and Mecklenburg County were both named for the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen consort of King George III. You can find the highly populous Hillsborough, showing more than twenty significant buildings, but Raleigh and Durham had not yet appeared.
