A Map of South Carolina and Part of Georgia. A Perfect Recreation™ of the upper section of the 1780 engraving with original hand color, in two sections. William Faden and William Gerard De Brahm. 48 ¾" x 32".
De Brahm's map of South Carolina was the first comprehensive and accurate survey of the area -- and the earliest large scale map of any part of the southern colonies at the time of the American Revolution. We have perfectly re-created a rare example with full and exceptionally well preserved original color. Its lower section includes a decorative cartouche depicting plantation slaves at work; and, a legend listing the names of all the landholders in the colony. Examine the carefully drawn boundaries of every plantation in South Carolina and Georgia. Follow the extraordinarily detailed coastline from Charles Town to Hilton Head to Savannah to Jekyl Island.
