Vue de Honolulu, Iles Sandwich. A Perfect Recreation™ of the lithograph with original handcolor by Barthélemy Lauvergne, 1840. 15 ¼" x 10 1/8"
When the French seafarer Nicolas Vaillant put in at Honolulu in 1839 with the artist Barthelemy Lauvergne aboard, the port was in its original state . Our Perfect Recreation of Lauvergne's hand-colored engraving shows their moored ship, La Bonite, along with a small launch and a traditional canoe. In the foreground, some Hawaiians appear in traditional dress; others wear missionary-influenced European clothing. This work is an intricately beautiful time machine that will provide years of conversation, contemplation and enjoyment. "Absolutely perfect and magnificent".
