Phillips' formally posed but brilliantly alive flower is a luminous, exotic rainbow presented in a very full three dimensions. Orange flames leap from a deep purple and red ground. The Bird of Paradise Flower (Strelitzia) is native to South Africa where Jenny Phillips regularly paints and teaches. These exotic flowers are found throughout the South Pacific including Jenny's native Australia. The genus Strelitzia was named for Charlotte of Mechlenburd of Strelitz in Germany, the queen of George III of England.
