A Map of the Most Inhabited Part of New England. A Perfect Recreation of the engraving with original hand color, in two sections. Engraved and published by Thomas Jefferys from the survey by John Green. 1774. 39-5/8" x 41-5/8"
Watch the Video: New England in 1774 Thomas Jefferys' map of New England was the first comprehensive and accurate survey of the area -- and one of the earliest large scale regional maps of any part of America prior to the American Revolution. First issued in 1755 from the survey by John Green, it continued to be reprinted and used during and after the Revolutionary War. Jefferys was the leading British chart and mapmaker of the pre-Revolutionary era and the "Geographer to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales". A Plan of Boston and a Chart of Boston Harbor appear as detailed insets; and, a colorful cartouche shows an Indian conversing with Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock. The map contains many family names indicating ownership of real estate throughout the region. We offer separately the upper half and lower half of this large-scale, two-section map. We also offer the magnificent two-section 1777 Montresor map of eastern New England, New York and parts of Pennsylvania. "Absolutely perfect and magnificent".
