These Roses thoroughly demonstrate Phillips' mastery of botanical details: the finest and the most beautiful. From the textural detail and three-dimensionality of the leaves to the luminosity and near-transparency of the petals, this painting has such a living presence that you may be first inclined to sniff it. The flowers boast remarkable color gradients from pale to deep pinks, soft yellows to light oranges. Phillips beautifully presents all views and flower states — from tightly closed buds to fully opened blooms to a past-peak flower with only a few remaining petals.
