Map of the World. A Perfect Recreation of the engraving in two colors. By Bernardus Sylvanus Ebolensis. 1511. 21 7/8" x 16 3/8"
This map is a fascinating and beautiful work of art to live with. Published in Venice in 1511 for the Ptolemy Atlas, the Sylvanus World Map was the first to be printed in two colors: red and black. This map is considered to be the first depiction of continental North America, perhaps the result of information gathered by the Corte Real voyages for the King of Portugal.
