The Hawks-bill Turtle was abundant when it was painted by Mark Catesby c. 1730. It is extravantly and gorgeously framed by Ædicule Fine Framemaking, the internationaly renowned source for hand-crafted, historically accurate picture framing. This 'Reverse Cassetta' profile frame has an ivory "ogee" at its inner, or sight, edge. Its surface treatment is 23K gold water gild over red and ochre, with moderate aging and patination.
